The Story of Werewolf: The Series
Ep. 244 is live!
Here we are, week four of Howl-O-Ween Month…the very week of Halloween itself. It has been an incredibly busy week; Between last Friday and this past Friday I’ve participated in three live streams. Last Friday I popped into friend of the show Eric Hyde’s stream over at Hey Internet Eric Here to talk treasured Halloween memories. This past Thursday was another instalment of Retro Cavalcade on Allison Troy’s channel, along with our buddy Andrew of Gayties Toys. The following night, Friday, I was invited to join Johnny and Kayla over at Geek The F Out, along with Tony Taylor of Fantazm Toys, to review the last three episodes of Stranger Things 4. This weekend has seen Shawna oversee her big Halloween Dance, while I went to my work Fall Party (attempting a Christmas Party during peak season is impossible), and young Henry enjoyed time at Uncle Josh’s House. Sunday has been nothing but cleaning, meal prep, and bracing ourselves for Halloween, the start of my peak schedule, and The Holiday Gauntlet. Oh, and Shawna and I need to record Fun-Sized Yesterdaze as well. Needless to say, I don’t really have designs to get too in-depth, write up wise, on Werewolf: The Series and will instead just let the episode speak for itself. When researching it, though, it was interesting to learn what sort of chances the fledging FOX network was willing to take that first year. Upon rewatching some episodes, Werewolf doesn’t hold up strong, but I can still enjoy it. For me, it is yet another representation of young Derek’s means of rebellion; sneaking episodes of this while Susan and my father were none the wiser was a regular occurrence, and I didn’t always have a hot bath running interference for me. Still, I managed to keep my cool about me, not unlike this smooth customer with swagger behind the scenes of Werewolf.
Now that…is one casual and cool ass werewolf. It should be noted that the werewolf effects were courtesy of one Rick Baker. Though not his strongest work, the creature effects aren’t too bad; especially when considering this was for a tv show on an unestablished, nonlegacy network. That is going to wrap it up for this week, as well as this month! We do hope you’ve enjoyed our month long special of werewolf related revisits for Halloween. Who knows what next year will bring, but I do know this: we will talk about Teen Wolf in 2025 for its 40th anniversary. Also, I know next month has me feeling grateful! Next week kicks off November’s annual Month of Gratefulness. It’s a month where I show my gratitude for those who love and tolerate me for who I am by way of specific show topics. Now, as most know we do record our shows in advance, which means you’ll hear us mention what’s planned for November…only for that to change. Jacob aka Red Mountain Retro became an I Have The Power patron, so we will be sliding in his Patron Pick as the last episode of November. Also, right about the same time, our dear friend Kevin Clark joined at the same level. Unfortunately, Kev’s will have to wait until 2025 because there was nothing that could be bumped. This works out well, as this gives us time to plan what his patron pick will look like, A BRIGHT GOLD STAR to anyone that can guess Kevin’s pick. Ultimately, this means that Planes, Trains, & Automobiles gets bumped, it’ll make a fine episode for next Thanksgiving. That said, we will be kicking November off with a pick for Dustin that just reaches right up and tickles my mind grapes! Next week we discuss 1995’s Freakazoid from Kids WB! I absolutely ADORE this show! The fact it never got a toy line is criminal, and it HAD to have caused some inspiration for Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer when creating The Venture Bros. Until then, please have a fun and safe Halloween! If you are taking little ones out please be careful, if you are going out for grown up fun don’t do anything I wouldn’t do…on second thought, don’t do most things I would’ve done. That does it for this week, and this month, but come back next Monday to kick things off proper. As always, Thanks! And enjoy!
